Communication Folder
This folder is an essential tool for communication between school and home. Students are expected to bring their communication folder every day. Please check the front pocket for any important papers that require your immediate attention and the back pocket for completed work (great stuff for the refrigerator!!). Any money or forms should go in the zippered pencil pouch. Sight words/homework will be in the sheet protector. Please initial the calendar daily.
Lunches
We eat lunch in our classroom. Your child needs to bring a lunch and a snack every day. Jimmy John’s is available for purchase on Mondays and Chick-fil-A on Fridays. The students are welcome to bring something that needs to be heated. We do have a microwave in the classroom. I just ask that it take less than 2 minutes to heat up so that they will have plenty of time to eat.
Snack
Please make sure that you send in an afternoon snack every day unless we indicate that we are offering a special snack. Please mark it snack or pick another location for your child to keep it other than their lunch box so they don’t eat it at lunch.
Show and Tell
We have show and tell every Friday. This is a chance for the kids to learn more about each other. They get to practice speaking in front of the class and get a chance to be in the spotlight. We especially love it when the students bring in something that is important to them (maybe a craft they made or a picture). Please bring something that starts with our “letter of the week”
Birthdays
If you are sending in treats, please let me know. You may send them in with your child or bring them in yourself. We like to have them in place of snack, at 2:30.
***If you are sending in invitations for the class, please send enough for the entire class or all the boys/girls. If you are unable to invite the entire class, please send the invitations directly to students at home as to prevent hurt feelings.
Book Clubs
Every month your child will bring home a Scholastic Book Club order form. These forms have a lot of selections for you to choose from. A due date will be included when the order forms go home. Our class will receive free materials and books based on our order points. I have received lots of free books in the past so I feel this program is a win-win situation for both home and school! Happy reading!
Volunteers
We love to have volunteers in our class. We have plenty of opportunities for you to help out in the classroom or things that you can do from home. We really appreciate it when parents can come in to help with lunch and/or recess. Just email me or call me to let me know when or how you would like to volunteer.
Behavior plan
A color will be shown on the calendar inside the take home folder to indicate what color the student was on at the end of the day. If your child has to move their clip to red, a brief note will be included to explain why it was moved. The general system is: Green: Great day!!! Yellow: several warnings. Red: aggressive behavior and/or very disruptive, note and/or call home. If they get a purple it means they had an especially GREAT day!
We also incorporate a very positive reinforcement system in our classroom to reward good behaviors. We collect dojo points and turn them in for a prize. Dojo is a classroom management app and you will have access to see your child’s points earned daily.
5 points: Small treat
15 points: Treasure Box
30 points: Coupon (lunch with a friend, extra computer time, etc.)
Our Classroom Rules:
Please save your box tops! It helps us earn money for our classroom.
Missed assignments
My general policy is not to give out homework/assignments ahead of time. If your child has to miss school I will work with them during FIRE time to catch them up on any missed work. We do a lot of hands on activities in class and it is hard to send that home.
Tests
My policy is to keep all tests on file in the classroom. I will send home the graded tests for you to look over and sign (letting me know you saw it). Please return it in your child's folder the next day. You are welcome to go over any errors with your child but please do not mark on the test.
Homework
Please refer to take home folders for any homework and/or sight word review.
Conferences
Every six weeks you will have the opportunity to review a progress report or report card and schedule a parent/teacher conference. If at any time you have concerns or questions about your child's academic progress or social behavior, feel free to contact me to set up a conference at any time. I just ask that you make an appointment first. Please do not just drop by at the beginning or the end of the school day. These are both very busy times of the day and my attention is on the students.
Afternoon pick-up
First car line begins at 2:45pm. ASP begins at 3:10pm for students remaining. Students participating in the program must register and pre-pay or you will be charged an increased fee that is due when the student is picked up. Parents will be charged ASP fee unless the student rides with a student in grades 4-8 who is picked up during second car line OR they ride the bus. Parents picking up students after 4:00 should enter the school through the 4/5 hallway.
